How do I assign parent-child relationships?

A parent-child relationship can be used to associate one or more assets with a parent asset, essentially grouping the assets together. The relationship can be assigned from either the parent or the child asset. If you are associating multiple assets with one parent, it is easiest to make the assignment from the parent asset. Note that a child asset can optionally be "locked" to a parent asset, which will automatically include it in all the parent assets transactions in the future.

To assign one or more children to a parent asset:

  1. Navigate to the Assets tab, and click the Asset Tag of the parent asset.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. In the Child Assets section, scan or enter each child asset tag into the Asset Tag field and press enter. Alternatively, you can click the magnifying glass icon to search for assets to add.
  4. To lock a child to the parent, click the checkbox next to the asset and click the Lock to Parent button. Note that the child asset must already be in the same location as the parent asset in order to lock it.
  5. Click the Save button to apply the parent-child assignment(s). 

 

To assign a parent from a child asset:

  1. Navigate to the Assets tab, and click the Asset Tag of the child asset.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. Enter the asset tag of the parent asset into the Parent Asset field. Alternatively, you can click the magnifying glass icon to search for the parent asset to assign.
  4. To lock the asset to the parent, click the Lock to parent checkbox.
  5. Click the Save button to apply the parent-child assignment.
